Hello darling Tarts! For the June outing - we will be enjoying high tea again -
at The New Dundee Emporium, Sunday June 24th, 3pm to 5pm.
Karis will be there to give us details of her recent Camino challenge - so a good turnout would be great.
Please notify Sheku at 519 749 1830 by the 20th latest so we can let Mark and Danny know the numbers.

The tickets are now done for "Tart of the Day" September 30th 2007, and I am getting orders from the general Red Hat public now. If you want to reserve a ticket - please do so asap. I will also need to know your meal choices too - see Special Events on our website.

Looking forward to seeing a whole lotta Tarts on the 24th!

Hello ladies!!!!

My Grand Opening on 30 May was a huge success!!!!! Over 200 people attended!!!!! If I didn't get much of a chance to talk to you, I apologize, but it was crazy! We did it!!!!!!! John and I painted, renovated, plastered and moved while still working as usual and managed to pull off the Grand Opening! Now we need an excuse to get you all there for a photo!!!!!!!

Thank you to all of those who attended....Pat, Karen, Donelda, Carolyn, and Marie Louise. If I missed anyone, I apologize.

The Camino calls you. The Camino changes you. Hmmmm… These traditional sayings may be true. I don’t really know what made me decide to go backpacking on a pilgrimage trek. I just knew I was going. The decision was made in about 30 seconds.

Since then, the changes have been coming thick and fast:
• First, I had to get up off my comfy, middle-aged duff, habitually parked in front of my computer, and start walking. Ouch! Change number one was realizing I needed orthotics. That led to a change of footwear – and better posture and a relief from decades of back and foot pain.
• Then I started acquiring all the gear I would need for the trip. That was hilarious, since it was not unusual for me to go through more clothes in any given day than the total amount I would be able to take in my backpack for six weeks! Weighing and unpacking and repacking my backpack taught me to think in a “less is more” sort of way - change number two.
• I chopped off my shoulder length blond hair and let the natural grey grow out. This meant less hair care, less time in front of the mirror and a whole new look. People I knew didn’t recognize me! That was change number three, and it was a biggie.
• In order to find time to do any walking at all, I had to cut back on my level of involvement in and commitment to all the clubs and groups and organizations to which I belong. I even cut back on the work I was doing for my Netscapades and PartyClip customers. That gave me a little more time for family and friends – especially those willing to walk with me. Change number four was feeling my shoulders ease down from being stressclenched up around my ears.
• Then my fancy frameless glasses broke. The delicate wire arm just let go and one eye was suddenly looking through the bifocal disconcertingly. A metaphor for learning to see in a new way? Perhaps. I decided to buy a more robust, “serviceable” pair, with black wire frames, to take on the trek. Now I really look like somebody else! That was change number five.

These changes were mostly external. The internal changes will be more pronounced and will come from the physical journey itself. My family and friends, most of whom see me as more of the “Princess and the Pea” type, think I’m crazy for doing this pilgrimage. My husband, Mom, brother and sister-in-law are teasingly supportive. I’m grateful to my kids and nieces and nephews for their positive comments about the haircut. My Chalice “sisters” pooled their resources to buy me a lightweight sleeping bag for my birthday, so I can feel wrapped in their protective energies on the Camino. Other friends have provided such items as the flashlight and knife I will take with me. Many had wonderful ideas and suggestions for techniques and strategies to lighten the load or make the most of the fewest items. Some came out to walk with me and showed me new trails and indoor places to walk.

Since part of my intention on this journey is to free myself from technology’s grip on my life, this may be my last contact with you until we return in June. Greetings my Dahlin' Tarts!

Once again, the fourth Sunday of the month is fast upon us. This month we will be enjoying the hospitality of the New Dundee Emporium in...you guessed it...New Dundee. The date is March 25th, the time is 3:00 p.m.

For those that haven't had the good fortune to have been there before, the Emporium is run by Mark and Danny, two of our fab judges of last September's Tart For A Day (Bless their hearts, they have excellent taste around Best Talent). They will provide us with fresh sandwiches and home baked goodies for a traditional High Tea.

Since everything is baked/put together that day, EXACT numbers are important. Due to this fact, payment will be required from all those who commit to going. Please let me know by Friday, March 23rd (at 519-749-1830) if you are planning to attend.

After our scrumptious tea, you can browse in the Emporium's unique (funky!) gift store.

The cost of this wonderful experience is a mere $19.00

Hello Fellow Raspberry Tarts!

Tomorrow is the official "Hatting" for Karen. It is being held at my studio on 283 Duke Street West in Kitchener. I am not sure if you have been contacted by Sheku but the main door of the building is locked on weekends so you may have to call the studio 519 584-7859 to have someone come down to let you in. Also I do not know the numbers attending and do not have alot of chairs for everyone to sit. If you have a portable folding chair, it may be a good idea to bring it along. I did not hear from Sheku until Thursday of this week regarding times or any info and was attending a wake and funeral so this is the first opportunity I've had to post any info. Hope most of you check the blog before attending!

Greetings All Tarts,

I am delighted, thrilled and humbled by the afore-mentioned " hatting" this Feb. 25th. My actual 50th BD was Feb 5th, which was celebrated with much frivolity, libations, and dancing. I am sooooo looking forward to the " official hatting ceremony"....and I want to thank all you bodacious tarts in advance for your friendship these past 5 ( can you believe it? ) years. I don't know about the rest of you ladies, but, I am ready to have a hatting good time, and look forward to being " ravishing in red ". Pretty kool when you actually look forward to turning 50 !

Ta-Ta for now, and hope to see as many of you as possible on Feb 25th. Keep those boa's fluffed.

Please note that you need to CALL our QM Sheku to let her know your thoughts about the insurance issue. If you want to make a general comment about it, you can do so here, but she may not see that, so DO call her.

Personally, I don't think we need to be spending money on insurance, but I will go along with the group. Besides, we all already signed a form that said we would go along with the group's decision when we renewed our membership.

Please note that I have just sent out new instructions for posting on the BLOG - check your e-mail to make sure you received them.

If anyone has photos from our January event at Liaison College, please send them to me. As soon as I have a photo or two I will put up the new Herstory page for 2007. :)

My Dear Tarts,

Greetings and Happy Valentine's Day!!!

We have news about the insurance issue. Morison Insurance Brokers is the (Hamilton) company that will represent Southern Ontario chapters. They will divide groups into either clusters of eight chapters or 250 people. The cost per member will vary from about $6 to $20 a year depending on how many people are in each chapter. Also, we would need $1,000.00 in reserve as a deductible.

We need to decide and register before the 15th of February. Please let me know at (519)749-1830 what you feel. Sorry this is short notice, but there were some minor issues about the upgrade of the blogger that needed to be dealt with.

On to other things...we have our first "Hatting" coming up on February 25th. Karen BELL will be going from Pretty in Pink to Ravishing in Red. Congratulations Karen!!

The event will be at Judy's studio, Stone Photography 283 Duke St. W., Kitchener at 3:00 p.m.. Check here closer to the date for confirmation of timing.

Those attending, please bring your own libation and snacks to share. Let me know by February 22 if you can attend, again at (519)749-1830.

Many of you have signed up to organize a monthly "tea"...however, March is still free. Don't be shy!!! Who would like to take that date over?

Happy New Year!

Now it's time to look ahead to 2007. Our first meeting of the new year will be on Sunday, January 28, at Liaison College of Culinary Arts, 1780 King Street E. (at Mongomery) in Kitchener, from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. Each Raspberry Tart is asked to bring a special china teacup and saucer, with a story to tell about it. (No, the story doesn't have to be true - we accept "truthiness" all in good fun.)

Chef Brian promises us "proper" tea (he's British) and we are looking forward to a fine event. We may even have a guest speaker to tell us about Teas from all over the world - I'll confirm that when I know for sure.

After all that refined, ladylike and conservative behaviour, we will revert to outrageous "Tart" mode, and make a group excursion to the nearest Stag Shop, en masse. There's courage in numbers!

You MUST let me know, by phone or e-mail, if you are planning to attend, by Monday, January 22, to allow preparation time. Only those on the attendance list will be served. If you call after the cut-off date, you will have to contact the chef yourself, and beg and plead to be allowed to come.

I have some exciting news! I was away in Newfoundland and have opened up shop there as well! It will probably take a bit of time to really take off for me but I am excited none the less! I'm going to get to do what I love in the place I love the best even if only once or twice a year!!

Membership Dues

I'm a virgin blogger, so please be gentle with me :):).

Membership renewal for 2007 will remain at $15 PLUS a small portion of the annual Liability Insurance premium. I'm creating a brief membership form for completion which will include a Waiver related to the liability coverage. Cheques should be made payable to The Raspberry Tarts. We'll let you know the premium cost when we find out in the next month or so.

Renewal is due by December 31, 2006 so if you're heading south, make sure to renew before you go.

I will have the forms with me at Sheku's on Sunday.

If you are having trouble locating the posting site.. I just typed "blogger.com" into Google - and got it ok. Bookmarked of course.. grin.
FYI - a new Sally Anne's has opened - corner of Highland and Westmount - the old Canadian Tire building. I ventured out - but found them verry expensive!

I found a great second hand shop a few weeks ago that I thought everyone might be interested in. I was in Hockley Valley and stumbled upon a little shop called "From Closet to Closet". They have a lot of great everyday items in there but they also have a little section for Red Hatters with hats, jewelry, etc Great prices too!
